Sacred Value Of Conch & It’s Sound


The Conch, commonly termed as Shankh has been used in Hindu Tradition since ages. It is considered as auspicious and sacred in India’s ancient literature. There are many mythological stories that exist based on this Conch. Using Conch, one can hold all the Hindu Gods in their hands.

Conch an also be defined as the journey of life of a living creature that includes birth, resurrection, life, love as well as good luck. It is made up of a hard shell with pearly luster that represents the attribute of complete purity. It is also considered as one of the quality and weapon of Lord Vishnu to defeat his enemy or any evil power. The blow of this shell conch carries lots of meaning and one of them is the beginning of anything. It has been used in all kind of pujas and havans with a feeling of welcoming the god at that place. The sound of this shell enhances the positive energy in its surroundings and increases hope, courage, determination, optimism and will power in a human being. The divine sound of shankh resembles with the sound of “OM” the most sacred sound in Hindu culture. It has been said that the sound of it brings lots of luck and prosperity along with it.

Conch or Shankh also carries lots of meaning and belief in other cultures.
