Meaning & Signification of Adhik Maas

Adhik Maas is defined as an extra month after every 3 year in lunar solar calendar. It is also referred by various names such as Purushottam, Mal Maas, Malimaluch, Ahansapati and Sansarpa. This month does not include Surya Sankranti in it, which is also one reason why it is called Adhik Maas. This month is introduced in the calendar to remunerate difference between the solar and lunar year, because as per the Vedic calendar there are twelve months and this is an additional month as pee the solar calendar that is completely based on the Sun cycle. Hence it is termed as an Adhik Maas.
  • Signification of Adhik Maas: 
 As per the Astrology of Hindu Vedic, it is considered as an important year which comes every after three year. However, this month is also considered as a crucial month, therefore in this month people performs lots of homas, charity and donation and postponed any kind of auspicious work such as marriages, mundane etc. In this month people mainly appreciates spiritual and religious work, because as per the belief religious work in this month provides nice results to the person who performs that. It is said that, in this month prayers and rituals performance washes all sins of an individual.
