The importance of Hartalika
Teej is very huge for the Hindu women. It is celebrated in numerous places such
as Bihar, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and even in
Maharashtra with loads of belief and faith. Women basically dedicate this puja
to Goddess Parvati to protect their husbands from any negative energy and evil
power. Normally this puja is one day affair, where women keeps a long day
complete fast, but in some parts it also get celebrated for almost three days.
It has been believed
that any unmarried girl is keeping a fast and performing this puja with full
faith will get a life partner as of the Lord Shiva, whereas married women do it
for the wellbeing of her husband. As per the mythological tale, it has been
said that when Goddess Paravati didn’t have any attention from Lord Shiva, she
did very difficult austerities in the Himalaya for several years and after
seeing the dedication and love of Paravati, Lord Shiva agreed to marry her.
From that period of time this Hartalika Vrat is celebrated to seek the
blessings of goddess Parvati.
On this auspicious
day, women keep Nirjala Vrat for entire day and wear new cloths, bangles, jewelries
and puts mehandi on their hand. In 2012, this festival is falling on 18th
September.
