Tulsi Mala – The Sacred And Ritual Rosary

Majority of Hindu people grow Tulsi plant at their homes that is symbolic of good health, sacredness, and purity. Few households also have more than dozens of Tulsi plants in their garden. Along with this, people also create small forests that are known as ‘Tulsi-Vrindavans.’

Tulsi leaves garland is also the 1^st offering as daily ritual’s part in Hinduism that is called as ‘Tulsi Naivedhya. There is belief that without Tulsi, the offering or puja is not complete.

Tulsi mala is a garland, which is made of Tulsi. It is a belief that wearing Tulsi mala on regular basis increases devotion, inner peace, selfless love, purity and all holy virtues, which lead a genuine devotee to her or his highest spiritual aim.

According to Hindu mythology, God Vishnu likes Tulsi. Ceremonially it is married to Lord Vishnu on every year on 11^th bright day of Karthika month as per lunar calendar. For almost 5 days the festival continues and ends on full moon day. In the celebration of this festival, couple without daughter acts as a bride’s parents perform this ceremony at a temple. This year, festival comes on 24^th November 2012. 

Importance Of Tulsi Plant

Tulsi plant basically belongs to the family of basil, whose literal mean is “princely or royal”. This is considered as a holy plant in our Hindu culture or tradition and is getting worshiped since the history of the human being. It is one such plant that can be found at every house of India. In the various part of the country, the plants get referred by various names such as Surasha, Tulsa, Haripriya etc.

It is not just a holy plant; Tulsi is considered as an incarnation of Goddess herself. It has been believed that planting this plant outside the house or in courtyard and worshipping it on regular basis keeps all kinds of negative energy away from that place. The devotes of Lord Vishnu consider this plant as the Goddess Lakshmi, whereas the devotees of Lord Rama and Lord Krishna consider this plant as Sita and Radha, respectively.

Other than being a spiritual symbol, this plant also carries various physical healing attributes in it. It has been observed that person suffering from flu, cold, cough and throat problem gets a relief by consuming the leaves of this plant. It also carries properties to cure various skin related disorders in an individual.

Tulsi is considered as one of the most scared plants in the Hindu tradition or culture. The mala made from the beads of Tulsi is getting used for mantra chanting and meditation since ages. It consists of 108 beads of Tulsi along with one addition bead of other material or a larger Tulsi bead aligned with the help of string, which has a knot in between every two Tulsi beads. The additional bead is also termed Guru Beads, which helps for maintaining difference between the first and the last Tulsi bead.

Tulsi belongs to the family of basil herbs, is considered as highly auspicious and can be found at every Indian house, as it has been believed that the Tulsi plant purifies the atmosphere and bring positive energy along with it. Significance Of Tulsi Plant

Tulsi is also termed as living goddess, placed in the courtyard of houses and various temples. As per a mythological tale, Lord Vishu helped in bringing Tulsi to the earth for its betterment. It is said that, whenever a Tulsi is planted at any place, that place becomes holy place and not a single energy or evil eye can cross that place.
